Discover Monday: Spring Bin Cleaning Edition, $5/glass

Posted on

This week we are Spring Cleaning, various wines will take a turn for $5/glass tonight, including:

Rabl Langenlois Grüner Veltliner 2013, Austria
An elegant white wine with lovely freshness, minerality, texture and a vibrant acidity. Well balanced with a firm, underlying backbone and well integrated flavours of peach, grapefruit, white pepper and an earthy savouriness, exercising just the right amount of restraint, with hints of anise and savoury herbs on the focused finish.

2014, Casa do Arrabalde, Avesso/Alvarinho/Arinto, Portugal
Pale straw in colour, this lively wine is extraordinarily soft for an Alvarinho. Good fruit is evident, with crisp green apple and yellow plum rounding out with lemon and floral notes. It’s fresh and effervescent on the palate, with a lip-smacking finish.

2014, Bonarda, Don Cristóbal 1492, Mendoza Argentina
Bonarda from Argentina – still relatively new on the scene here north of the equator. A rich, inky ruby colour in the glass, it shows pretty floral notes and blackcurrant, plum and mulberry aromas and flavours. Moderate tannins and a good texture on the palate, with good length.

Château Peyros Madiran Tannat/Cabernet Franc 2010, Pays d’Oc France
Putting two naturally tannic grapes together seems to soften them both. The blend gives this rich wine structure, as well as rich plum and damson, leather and smokiness. The wine finishes on a high note of acidity.

2010, Rede Reserva, Portugal
This has great fruits and plenty of structure to go with it. Juicy plum flavors complement the dense tannins, mineral structure and concentrated texture. It’s a stylish wine that will develop some
